Mary Hall

Mary Hall is an award-winning reporter, producer, and editor, with expertise in explainer, long-form, and digital journalism. She is also the senior producer of the podcast Change Agents. She loves working on audience-focused products, striving to make complex information accessible to the average person. She has written extensively about affordability solutions for families; edited and tested consumer guides; overseen business-to-business magazines; and won awards for designing data-driven infographics.

Mary has worked with NPR, WBEZ, NewsNation/Nexstar, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Illinois Answers Project (Better Government Association), The Trace, YES! Magazine, the Solutions Journalism Network, the Pulitzer Center, and more. She is a past president, and currently on the board of, the Chicago Headline Club, among the largest chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists.
