Each Sentri Zone™ is equipped with technologies in computer vision, wearables, sensor fusion, and other sensors to improve worker health and safety. Worker-Centric AI™ allows us to sync these technologies and continuously scan the environment for potential risks. The Edge Server analyzes data collected from each device. The system then identifies if there is a potential for unsafe conditions and sends an alert within seconds. 

Q. According to your website, Worker-Centric AI is the modern-day canary in the mine. Can the software identify unsafe conditions in real time?

In the early 1900s, coal miners would bring canaries down into the mines to act as a barometer for the environment's health. The canaries, much smaller and sensitive to the atmosphere, were more susceptible to toxic gases like carbon monoxide. A canary’s anatomy allows them to get a gulp of air when they inhale and another after exhaling, thanks to extra air sacs.  The double dose of air would cause the canary to show signs of distress when exposed to toxins long before humans realize the danger. These early warning signs allowed miners to escape safely. 

Worker-Centric AI™ is the modern-day equivalent to the canary in the coal mine. Combining technologies like sensor fusion and computer vision with advanced sensors acts much like the small canary’s acute senses, continuously scanning the environment for any signs of danger. The key component of Worker-Centric AI™ is the use of edge computing. Instead of being sent to a cloud or data center for processing, data collected from connected devices is analyzed by the Edge Server, which lives “at the edge” and allows for fast analysis of data. Within seconds, the Edge server can make an intelligent decision – is the risk of unsafe conditions present – and alert the worker to prevent an incident before the worker even sees the first sign of danger. 

Q. How big of a work area can be surveyed at one time?

Each Sentri Zone™ covers a span of 10,000 sq. ft. with workers at the center. Multiple Sentri Zones™ can be deployed throughout a single facility for optimal coverage and protection. Sentri Zones™ have mobile abilities when sensors are attached to equipment such as a forklift or crane. As equipment moves, sensors continue to scan the space it travels through and identify possible hazards in the environment. 

Q. How do the wearables fit in to create a safer work environment?

Everguard’s smart wearables utilize Worker-Centric AI™ and collect real-time data relative to a worker’s physiological and biomechanical metrics, in addition to their location as they carry out their tasks. Metrics like VO2 levels, heart rate, ambient temperature, and dehydration area all tracked. The data analyzed by our technology identifies when a worker is becoming dehydrated, their heart rate is increasing, or they are becoming fatigued long before they ever feel the first symptom. Once detected, the worker is alerted to take a break and hydrate. 

Q. Are there plans to take the software beyond the metals/manufacturing industry?

Industrial settings demand technologies that protect and empower workers. Worker-Centric AI™ can be used in any type of harsh but vital industry. From the facility floor to the warehouse to the construction site, Worker-Centric AI™ is the proactive solution industrial workplaces need to keep workers safe.
